 David Tolley
 
Electricity Industry expert

David is an electrical engineer with an interest in economics and an extensive knowledge of the UK electricity industry and energy markets. He has held senior management positions in generation, distribution and supply both before and after privatisation. He joined MEB in 1964 as a graduate trainee engineer and then MANWEB as an economist before attending business school.  A period as a corporate planner for a FTSE 100 company was followed by an appointment as a Pricing Specialist at the Electricity Council, dealing with UK electricity tariffs. In 1987 he joined CEGB as Business Planning Manager and ran a privatisation team dealing with the development of the Pool and its contractual framework. In 1990 he became Sales & Marketing Manager for National Power, dealing with wholesale electricity trading, and in 1994 Commercial Manager, dealing with contractual arrangements with National Grid for NP power stations. At this time he was involved with the commercial arrangements that underpinned National Power's purchase of its first major overseas power station in Australia.  In 2001 he was appointed a Director of Innogy Cogen, a CHP business with 13 power stations, and in 2003 Commercial Director at Npower. He is a B.Sc (Eng), an MBA, a Fellow of the IET and a Visiting Senior Fellow at the University of Bath.
